How cute are these apple pies?? You’re all going to be shocked but I’m actually not a fan of apple pie…at all but I just HAD to try making these because Thanksgiving is around the corner and the rest of my family loves apple pie. I was trying to switch up the whole classic pie thing and try something new and these were nice and sugary and sweet.
Make sure you dice the apples nice and small or else your mini pies will look a little lumpy. I used granny smith because you need a slightly sour apple to make these taste right.
After you stir in all the ingredients with the apples they’ll start to get nice and juicy after they sit! This is when they smell and taste delicious. I might not be a fan of apple pie but I love the sweet apple mixture. And if you’re thinking I don’t like crust then you’re wrong because I love every other type of pie!
When you cut out the heart shapes try to fit as many as you can on the dough and make sure they aren’t too thick! If they’re too thick then the pies will be too doughy and not enough sweet apple mixture.
Fill the heart up with apple mixture but leave room around the edges. Try not to get too much of the juice on the dough or else it will start to ooze out when you close them (it’s fine if this happens though so don’t worry too much).
Drizzle some caramel on top to add to the flavor! And who doesn’t like caramel apple?
Put the heart on top of the apple mixture and seal with a fork! Add three slits and some egg wash on top. Sprinkle some sugar on top and then throw them in the oven! They should be a nice golden brown with a darker brown around the edges. I recommend eating some while warm…and maybe with a little vanilla ice cream on top!
If you liked the plates I used for pictures, check out how to make it here!
